I am getting so discouraged
Hi all.
Hate to be such a downer on my first post, but I am really getting discouraged. I had a gastric bybass on Aug. 14, and by week 3 I had lost 23 pounds. Almost 2 weeks later, I'm at only a 25 lb loss. Yesterday I walked the dog in the morning, and walked on the treadmill in the evening, and this morning I am UP a pound.
I've been pretty good about getting the 65 grams of protein in, until a couple days ago when I decided I could not fathom having any more protein shakes. All the sudden I could barely gag them down. It's hard to get all 65 grams in on just the tiny amounts of food I can have. But I placed an online order from Smartforme.com yesterday, so that will help.
Yesterday I ate about 625 calories, but only 38g of protein. I'm usually somewhere between 500 and 700 calories/day. How can I not be losing any more than that on those few calories??
I know someone who had the surgery the same day as me (Hi Jane!!!), and she has lost FORTY FOUR pounds (CONGRATULATIONS JANE!!!! That is SO awesome ).
I think I must be doing something wrong. It's most probably the lack of exercise. I just have no energy, even when I do get all the protein in. So yesterday I forced myself to do those 2 walks, and I'm rewarded with a 1 lb gain. Aaaargh.
OK, I'll stop whining now, lol. I know that at some point my body will have no choice but to give up the fat. It's not like I can fall off the wagon because I'm discouraged, like I've done so many times in the past. I physically can't fall off the wagon. I'm tied to it! lol.

Jennifer,
First of all your only a little over a month out. Dont treat this like a constest. It isnt. You are doing great at loosing 25 pounds. I only lost 20 my first month out.
You body is just taking a rest and playing catch up. Dont fret!!!!!!
As for the protien drinks I dont believe in them. I didgetmy protien from the food I ate. Just stick with protien first, Turkey slices, Cheese, roast beef slices. low fat of course. eggs, get your water in. 64ounces.
I am 5 yrs out and some and I have lost 155 pounds. I highest weight was 285 and I am at 130. you will get there. You didnt gain it overnight you wont loose it overnight. It takes time. Carla Klein
Hello,
congrats your wls, I also agree with Carla, It takes your body some time to heal after having surgery, But I also wanted to add, watch your cal. intake, you dont want to get to low. You only absorb 40% of what you eat. so if you are only eating 600 cal you are absorbing apx. 240 cal. If you eat too small your body will store all you eat. Just work on getting in your protein, if you dont want to use the protein drinks, eat yogurt, cheese, meat. and Vegies. If you can. Dont forget to get in your water, water makes i big difference, you want to flush all the fat that you are melting away!!!!
Thanks for your replies. I know it's not a competition - really I do - and I am THRILLED for Jane. I went out today and bought roast beef and turkey, and packaged them into 1 oz servings, so I'm prepared for the week. Same with cheese cubes - packaged in snack bags in 1 oz servings. And I got some ready-to-drink EAS AdvantEDGE Carb control shakes (17g protein). And I am vowing to walk, walk, walk. We were told not to eat veggies yet. They said just worry about protein for now. I think I'm about right on calories for the stage I'm in. I know I just need to chill.
Hi Jennifer--I am having some of the same problems as you. It is so very hard to not get on the scale everyday because some days I have gained a pound or so. But I know that I have also been eating some foods with sodium in them and it makes me retain the fluids. Eventually it comes off and I was thrilled when one day I had lost 4 pounds. Don't know if this will help you, but it's a thought. Caryn
Hi Jennifer,
Congrats on your surgery and your current weightloss! I saw that you posted shortly after your original post stating that you've lost more now. Good for you!
Don't get discouraged m'dear...you will have some weeks that you won't lose much or nothing at all...quick checking your weight SO much and that will help. ;-) You can become addicted to checking it if you're not careful and that's not good for you.
Also, make sure that you drink your water! Very important. :-) It's amazing what impact that has on things. Getting protein in is hard...it doesn't get a whole lot easier even when you're able to eat more. There are many protein bars out there though that can help you w/ that if you're past the protein shake thing. ;-) I can't do the shakes anymore...but I was able to for a long time. There's lots of varieties of powders and different shakes that you can make though...so try to mix it up as much as possible before giving up completely on it ok. ;-) But as far as the bars are concerned, one of the BEST bars that I've found yet is Power Crunch (the best price for those I've found are at getbody.com). It's almost like a KitKat bar! There really great and have 15g of protein, only 10g of carbs, and only 195 calories! You might want to try these! I haven't found them in stores...so online purchasing of them is best. :-)
Ok...I'll get off of my soapbox now. Good luck!! :-)
